I have always been very faithful to wool. Or alpaca. Or any other animal fibre. I tried knitting a summer linen sweater in BC Garn Linho once, but I didn’t enjoy knitting it much, and I had worn it like 2 times before I gave it to my mum. Then I also tried one camisole, although I don’t wear such things, even non-knitted. I just wanted to try, you know, just knit it. By then, I knew I was not a plant fibre knitter, but I wanted to try one more item – a bralette. I used Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino, and despite not wearing the bralette even once, I discovered a summer yarn that I could possibly be willing to knit with in the future.
And the future is now! Being sad I can’t wear my knits during hot summer at all, I decided I would give it another try. At the same time, Andrea Gaughan was looking for test knitters for her Sunshine Tee (in the cover photo), so I applied and was selected. Now, I have a few more ideas for spring or summer knits, and I am eager to share them with y’all!
Look At My Holes
Look At My Holes is a very holey design by James N. Watts (see the first photo), and I would never think I would knit and/or wear something like that. It’s definitely a step out of my comfort zone. 😄 However, I saw it in Claudia’s Knits podcast, where she mentioned HighFiberKnits’s version (in the second photo), which kind of caught my eye. While browsing the finished projects on Ravelry, I realised I liked it more in some yarns/fibres than others. I decided to use Knitting for Olive Pure Silk, just as HighFiberKnits did. I learnt in her podcast that she held the yarn double.
Then, I needed to find a styling and a colour that would work for me. Well, the design itself is wild enough, so I didn’t want to use any bright colours, although I really loved the Quince colourway. I was also thinking about whether I would be comfortable enough to wear only a sports bra or bralette underneath, and I decided that I liked it better with a simple black camisole. Just as HighFiberKnits pictured it in her Ravelry project. 🤔 Then, it was not a big surprise that I ordered the yarn in colourway Cardamom, the one she used. The colour is a bit darker in real life and more muted or less warm.
I plan to knit size L (106.5 cm / 42 in), which should give me like 15 cm / 6 in positive ease. Three skeins with yarn held double should be enough.
Outline Tee
I hate wearing camisoles or anything that doesn’t cover my shoulders. With the Look At My Holes, I realised that I could wear one with a very airy knitted top. Therefore, I searched for more! And I decided on Outline Tee by Jessie Maed (in the first photo). It’s more me; it’s not as risky as the Look At My Holes, so I could even go for a brighter colour!
As always, I went through the finished projects on Ravelry, and I like the most version by Downtheknithole (in the second photo). She used Knitting for Olive Pure Silk as well, so I decided I could go for the Quince colourway that I liked so much but was hesitant to use for Look At My Holes.
I will go for a more fitted tee, so I will knit size XS (101.5 cm / 40 in), which should give me about 10 cm / 4 in positive ease. I will use two skeins held single.
Purple Coke
I have known of Purple Coke by Katrin Schneider (in the second photo) for a long time. She also has a sweater and a cardigan version. However, I didn’t know what yarn I would use. Until I watched the newest episode of podcast of Vlněné sestry [🇨🇿] where is Helča talking about using Isager Trio 1 as the thinner thread. Well, I have my own plans with Trio 1, but when I looked at the colours, it clicked! I wanted to have a dark green knitted tee, and I could use Isager Trio 1 in colourway Bottle Green (in the first photo)!
However, the second yarn was a bit harder to find. But then I watched the newest episode of Severské vlnění podcast [🇨🇿] where I saw a pretty dark green linen yarn – Växbo Lingarn in colourway Mossgrön (in the third photo). Wouldn’t it be a perfect match?
I plan to knit size 1 (102 cm / 40 in), which, again, should give me like 10 cm / 4 in positive ease. One skein of each should be sufficient to knit the tee!
Sunshine Tee
This is the tee that started it all! It’s designed by Andrea Gaughan and is still in testing. I love mine so much, so maybe I’ll knit another in the future? Maybe next year? We’ll see. I used Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino in colourway Gray Lamb and the stripes are just a leftover Isager Alpaca 2 from another project.
I will tell you more about this knit when it’s released, also with some modelled photos and my knitting experience!
Well, so what about your knitting plans for spring / summer 2024? I am excited to hear about them! 🤩
